Feasibility Studies and Concept Engineering

Our aim is to produce preliminary design solutions that achieve or exceed performance, cost, manufacturability
and supply chain targets by conducting the following activities:
  • Outline and interpret design requirements
  • Establish novel design solutions and perform trade studies
  • Reduce cost, improve quality, enable lean manufacturing

Product Performance Assessment and Industrial Design

Detailed design of reliable products and systems is achieved by considering performance and manufacturing constraints during Design and Design for Manufacture activities as listed below:
  • Translation of requirements from manufacturing, assembly, repair etc. into realistic designs
  • Understanding of effect of manufacture on component performance, lifecycle effects
  • Using and developing reliable and efficient analytical methods for structures
  • Optimisation with respect to performance (mass, strength and stiffness), cost and life cycle targets
  • Demonstration of structural integrity through analysis and test
  • System engineering and system assurance

Manufacturing Process Development and Assessment

The aim here is to achieve and progress state-of-the-art manufacturing and translate it to realistic and achievable designs.  Our approach is based on careful and appropriate combination of manufacturing trials and simulation of manufacturing processes to enable fast, robust and scalable development.  The main activities include:
  • Outlining and interpretation of manufacturing requirements and capabilities
  • Development of cost effective and efficient multi-physics models of manufacturing processes
  • Optimisation with respect to production rate, production quality, production cost in order to achieve robust manufacture
  • Translation of existing and novel manufacturing technologies into design guidelines (design for manufacture, understanding of effect of manufacture on component performance and life)
